A lift

After a somewhat grueling day, a “lift” would be nice – so…bring on GOLF!  Today is Tournament Day – a little golfing fun with friends & colleagues.  Always a good thing.  Particularly after a rough one (pun intended).

It’s OK to take some Play Time.  Do it.  It’ll help get you through the next onslaught.

A QUOTE TO PONDER:

Chicago Cubs great, Ernie Banks once said, “Baseball reveals character; golf exposes it.”

Something to consider – particularly when GOLF is THE DIVERSION, after all…right ?!

Ever closer…

Moving through life – and the current days of that life – we move ever closer….  To what?  Well – that is yet to be determined.  As most know, “planning” is but an exercise we undertake in hopes of an outcome.  As most know, “things” happen!  Subsequently, those plans change – regularly.  Sigh.

But – we move ever closer.  Something to golfthink.  Something to ponder.  As we move ever closer, are we on the right (cart) path…are we taking the right approach (shot)….are we lining-up (the putt) properly…?

Moving ever closer it is perhaps critical that we “keep the eye on the ball,” moving it ever so gently, and carefully – targeting as best we can.  For whatever obstacles are placed before us, we persevere – we move ever closer to….

Golfthink of the Day:  Move Carefully, Move Decisively.

The Weather is HERE…!

Wish YOU were BEAUTIFUL…!!!  Oh c’mon.  You know that ol’ Jimmy Buffet song.  A portion of the Chorus:  ”(Heck) nobody’s perfect would you like to play?” – well…that certainly would be a chunk of the chorus to MY Golf Ballad, if I had one.

Nobody’s Perfect, but…Would You Like to Play…?  Perfect.  Sums it right up; doesn’t it?

OH – and the weather…?! – IT IS PERFECT…!!! – at least it has been over the last week, or so.

LET’S GOLF !

Yes.  I have played a little bit, and had the opportunity to take in some BEACH TIME, as well – Jimmy Buffet would be proud.  Even had a few Pina Coladas.  (I know…he’s a margarita guy, but the rum-based frozen concoction was really good, too!)

GOLF, BEACH, PINA COLADAS…Are You Kidding Me…Does it Get Any Better Than This…?!?!

Lucky, Very Lucky.  Taking it all in.  Appreciating the (not so) Little Things.  Life IS Good.  And yes…THE WEATHER IS HERE!

Re-Load…

Well…just when you think tomorrow has dawned…another set-back.  The frustration can be overwhelming.  There were some IT technical difficulties the last couple of days – so, have to re-load.  What?  Did you golfthink the opening line was referring to GOLF…?!  Well – perhaps.

Life – as in Golf – can be frustrating; and vice versa.  In golf – you put that particular club back in the bag, pull the next club, try the next shot.  A lesson perhaps for Life.  Just grab your next club…your next tool…another resource – and try the next shot.  TAKE the next shot.

With hurricanes, and floods, and fires, and drought all around – we take another shot.  We re-load, for another day.

FORE!

Watch out!

Golfthink is back!  It’s been too long.  And it’s been too HOT!  But…it has not deterred me from my love…golf.  Still golfthinking, golfdrinking, and – well – actually, GOLFING!

There have been good days & not so good days – but never a bad day on the golf course.  YOU’RE ON THE GOLF COURSE !!!

There have been trials & tribulations – both on-course & off.  There have been adventures, and a couple of mis-adventures.  There was even a little ‘getaway’ stay ‘n play package in the mix…and that outing garnered a 92!  Very happy with THAT!

With another golf stay ‘n play around the corner, and cooler weather straight ahead, golfthink is back.  And we’re gonna ‘tweak’ a few things.  WATCH THIS SPACE.  Good things are just a fairway away….

Golfthink of the Day:  Keep Moving Forward

August-a

WOW!  That was an exciting – who knew WHAT was going to happen ?! – Augusta.  The Masters.  The Heritage.  The Beauty.  The Legends.  The YOUTH…!!!

It seems the Tide Has Turned, or at least it’s moving quickly toward the shoreline where the public is now better prepared to welcome the warm waters of the future.  (Tiger who?)  Likely Stripe Man is not “out to sea” (to keep the metaphor going for a moment), but could it be that his “ship has sailed…?”

No matter.  The Masters of 2011 made for some exciting Golf  Gazing.  Up, down, up down…too many lead changes to keep up almost.

And by the way – how ’bout that German with the Aussie accent….?!

Me?  I’m pumped.  I gotta play me some golf! – and so…I go.  Today!  Can hardly wait to swing that club.  I’ll look for azaleas, and perhaps a ‘birdie’ or two.

Golf expo-sed

Just in case there was just not enough golf stuff, and/or information in my golfthink life…THE GOLF EXPO !  It’s this weekend…all weekend long.  I’m gonna get there as soon as I can today – meet some folks, demo some clubs, sign-up to win stuff, maybe even attempt the putting contest!  This year there’s even a sports lounge – this way I won’t miss any March Madness – how thoughtful of these golf people.

Nothing like a bunch of golf nuts zooming around a huge convention hall with golf equipment and paraphernalia everywhere…it should be quite a frenzy – but, in a good way.

Can’t you just see ‘em…throwing down all their personal information on every blank piece of paper they can find in order to perhaps WIN something (more likely – get yet one more golf-related email).  They’ll be standing in line to demo The-Next-Big-Thing to get that sleeve of balls.  They’ll be visiting a miniature version of their favorite retail shop there on the floor.

Wait a minute….”THEY”….?! – that’s ME !!!

Breaking 100

A STORY

A 72-Year-Old woman, Merle Ball, of Sebring, FL, in 1990 played 220 holes of golf in 13 hours.  The ambidextrous Ball decided she would play half of the holes right-handed, the other half she played left-handed.  Incredibly, she averaged 46 per round right-handed, and 48 left-handed.

_____________________________________________________________

ARE YOU KIDDING ME…?!?!?!

And we brag about breaking 100 !!!

Well…likely such a great score will evade play later today; BUT…there will be PLAY later today…YEA – GOLF !!!!  - with a group of favorite golf buddies.  No matter the outcome, the experience and FUN on the course will be worth the effort.  Indeed.

You know…I’m not sure that even  if I was ambidextrous I would attempt the feat of Ms. Ball.  THAT’S a dedicated golfer.

Saturday surprise

Hello Loyal Readers – To begin, something rarely done here in the golfthink tank – Name A Course; so here you go:  BEAR CREEK GOLF CLUB.

Why?  Why golfthink rarely names a course is in an attempt to keep it about golf and related life stuff, not any particular course. Why BEAR CREEK…? – simple:  Customer Service.

The level of customer service received made this the golfthink ‘Saturday Surprise’.  Details really aren’t important – recognition of such service, is.  Most courses are pretty good…pretty friendly…pretty helpful.  It is a rare thing, however, to find one that extends itself like Bear Creek.  Taking care of people. And we’ll leave it at that.

This particular Saturday the weather was awesome; it dictated a good round, no matter the score.  That the service received was this good…well…what another GREAT Saturday Surprise.  It made the round even sweeter.

(And of course there were those bloody mary’s…!)

If you ever have the opportunity, pop-in on the folks at Bear Creek – say “hello” to Scott, and know that they’re gonna do what it takes!

Golfthink of the Day:  Great Service is a Nice Surprise

Week o’ golf

Now this is not a salute to the upcoming St Patty’s Day – that will come later this week.  This is a salute to a week literally filled with lots of golf – and not bad golf, if I do golfthink so myself!

Between my 93 (see previous entry), my outing with my long-time friend who had not played in over 20 years on a day and at a place where an interesting backdrop awaited, to a Saturday filled with wonderful surprises…well….it was not just a week filled with golf, it was a GREAT golf week !  (there was only one ‘little’ thing missing…but that’s another story!)

This is just a quick entry to express how much golf continues to creep into my life…whoda thunk it ?!  Certainly I had no idea it would be this ‘pivotal’ just one year ago; but – here I am.

Stay tuned…you’ll learn of a Saturday full of surprises, next !!!

Golfthink of the Day:  Is there such a thing as too much golf…?!
